Austin, Tx - Review is in for Singer - songwriter, six-time Grammy nominated and innovative producer Gerald Maxwell Rivera also known as Maxwell. Sweeping through the Country stopping in Austin, Texas at ACL Live at The Moody Theater. Of course, Maxwell did his blackSummers' night tour B.I.G. for Texas!
As a reporter, I am privileged to see a lot of artists perform, but Maxwell stood apart. With Ro James as the opening act, who begin with a bang moving the crowd.
Maxwell's entrance was electric kicking off with the late iconic Prince's Kiss song, which sent the crowd into a dance phenomenal (including the media). The 43-year-old R&B singer made it clear this is a new Year, new Album and a new Level. It was clear, Maxwell was made to touch all generations. As one person stated, "Maxwell's music is food to the soul". This is clearly seen when Maxwell begins to sing "Dance Wit Me". The reaction from the fans is indescribable the electricity that spawned in the air.
I watched up close as hearts touched hearts. Couples moved in sync to his timeless music for lovers. Austinites bonded with Maxwell as he song "can't let you go, can't get you out of my soul". The new song released “Rose” was inspired by the 2016 film “Birth of a Nation” about the slave rebellion of Nat Turner – Maxwell envision love as the bridge between all cultures. Our media team witnessed as all nationalities came together for one purpose - Groove for LOVE.
Maxwell’s voice is in a category of its own, carving out a legacy in history for Maxwell. His voice with his moves, made it impossible to not be captivated by the seasoned performer.
Maxwell brought two new songs from his newly released album: “Lake by the Ocean” and “Rose.” Both are ballads about love — Have you purchased your album yet?
